Have you ever thought about a raw diet for your dog or cat and immediately come up with a million questions and concerns? Maybe some like the ones below…

“I want to switch my dog to a raw diet, but there is so much conflicting information out there. How do I know what is the best thing to do?”

“My friend’s dog just had a terrible reaction to kibble, what are the alternatives?”

“My dog has terrible allergies, no matter what brand of dog food I feed him.”

“My previous dog died at 7 years old from cancer. How can I keep my new puppy healthy and give her a long life?”

“My dog has chronic loose stools, bad gas, her coat is greasy & smelly. What can I do… I already feed an expensive grain free kibble?”

“I know a raw diet is species appropriate for my dog, and is best for him, but I don’t think I can find a variety of meat and if I could, I don’t think I can afford it…”

“My dog had pancreatitis, the vet says he needs to be on a prescription diet kibble. What is the  best food to feed him?”

” My dog is extremely picky when it comes to food. She don’t do well on many brands of kibble, but when I do find one, after one bag she stops eating and I have to search out another brand that she will eat and will tolerate. What can I do to improve her health and stop this pickiness?”

“I am interested in switching my dog to a healthier diet, but my friend tried her dog on a raw chicken and veggies diet but switched him back to kibble because the vet said it was dangerous! Are Fresh/raw diets really dangerous?”

“I want to give my dogs a raw food diet but I’m scared of giving them bones. what if they choke or the bones poke a hole in their stomachs?”

“What about Salmonella and e-coli in raw meat? Will my dog (or myself) get sick?”

These are just some of the questions and concerns I have received from pet parents over the past few years. I can help answer these!

Many of these are myths and misconceptions perpetuated by the big kibble companies, vets who receive all their nutritional education from kibble representatives, and folks who have tried feeding raw without properly educating themselves.  All the statements and questions above are valid concerns and completely normal for someone new to the concept of feeding dogs (and cats) a Prey Model Raw Diet. This is why an educational consultation is important before beginning a raw diet.

If you only know how to microwave frozen foods, you probably wouldn’t attempt to cook a fresh meal without first asking a friend for advice, leaning how to work the stove, how to measure ingredients, and having a recipe! If your friend was not there helping you, you would probably have them on speed dial!   Similarly, having a raw feeding coach available to provide you with solid facts and guidelines, answer questions and soothe your fears can help you be successful when switching to a raw diet, even with a puppy or a dog that has health challenges.
